The tragic death of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis is heartbreaking. (How many times must our hearts break this way?) Unfortunately, this is further evidence that we, as a society (and this includes both you and me), still have a long, long way to go. I do not say this as an indictment of our police forces, many officers are trying to do their very best each and every day; yet they are the ones on the front lines who must deal with and face situations from which most of us are conveniently shielded.

We (you and I) as a society bear sole responsibility for the construction of these “situations.” As people of faith, we have a moral obligation and imperative to deconstruct white supremacy and all forms of oppression…and it begins by looking at ourselves in the mirror.
